A policeman was declared dead on arrival at hospital, as a result of a shooting incident on November 14 at Jesusa Heights Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City.
The victim was identified as PSSgt. Benjie Giron, assigned at Bacolod City Police Office Station 6.
Police investigations showed that Giron was involved in a heated argument with the suspect identified as Regie Buatag, 27, of Hacienda Sian, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
At the peak of the argument, Buatag drew a knife and attacked the Giron, which prompted the victim to draw his service firearm. While both grappled for the gun possession, it suddenly fired and hit the police officer on his left abdomen, police investigations further showed.
Giron was immediately brought to the Metro Bacolod Hospital and Medical Center for medication, but he was later declared dead by the attending physician, regional police spokesman PLt. Col. Arnel Solis said.
Buatag is now locked up in jail.
The Police Regional Office 6 headed by PBrig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo expressed its gratitude and appreciation for the service rendered by Giron to the Bacolodnons, and the entire PNP organization, Solis said.*
