Pope Leo XIV has appointed Kabankalan Bishop Louie Galbines as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod.

Galbines succeeds Bishop Patricio Buzon, 76, who passed the mandatory retirement age for Catholic Bishops, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

The appointment was announced at 12 noon in Vatican City yesterday, which was 6 p.m. in Philippine time.

“Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Kabankalan in March 2018. He was ordained bishop at San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod on May 28, 2018, and installed in Kabankalan the following day,” it said.

The CBCP said the new bishop was a native of Sagay City, Negros Occidental.*
