Power demand across the Philippines dropped on Monday, which was declared a special non-working holiday for the midterm elections, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said Monday.
As of 11 a.m. yesterday, the NGCP reported a normal power situation across the grids of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
The reduced consumption can be attributed to the closure of offices, schools, and many business establishments, keeping the country’s power grids stable and within capacity.
The significant drop in electricity usage is a typical trend during national holidays, as commercial and industrial activities slow down.
In Luzon, demand reached 8,796 megawatts (MW), lower than the 10,349 MW demand recorded at 7 p.m. on May 11.
The Luzon grid’s total system capacity was at 17,168 MW as of 11 a.m. Monday.
The Visayas recorded 1,735 MW in demand versus 3,048 MW in available capacity, while Mindanao reported 1,615 MW in demand with 3,636 MW in capacity.
The NGCP said all transmission lines and facilities across the three major island grids were operating normally.*PNA
