BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

The Power Watch Negros Advocates Inc. is opposing the holding of the 43rd Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative on September 25 for possible violation of existing health and safety protocols which it believes might become a super spreader event that would endanger the lives of Ceneco consumers.

Wennie Sancho, PowerWatch secretary general, said Ceneco will be gathering during the assembly about 200,000 member-consumers-owners (MCOs) under its franchise areas which include the Cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay and Bago, and the towns of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.

In his letter to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III dated September 6, Sancho said they sent a letter to the acting general manager of Ceneco manifesting their vehement opposition against the holding of the AGMA but they have not received a reply.

He said they are aware of the irreparable damage to the lives and health of the MCOs who will be attending the AGMA. The determination of a quorum would be a formidable problem for Ceneco as this would be a flagrant violation of the mass gathering prevention to protect the health and welfare of the people.

Sancho also furnished a copy of their letter to the office of President Rodrigo Duterte, while the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases also furnished a copy to Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Sept. 17.*
