Price increases on Noche Buena products noted

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Amid yuletide season celebrations, prices of some Noche Buena products in local supermarkets were observed to be increasing by at least 10 percent.

Rachel Nufable, provincial director of the Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Occidental, explained that the increase in prices was still within last year’s Store Retail Prices (SRP).

Nufable also said that prices of other Noche Buena products have remained “as is,” as she advised the public to choose products that are within their budgets.

The DTI provincial official assured Negrenses they are strictly monitoring basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs), to ensure compliance to the suggested SRP.

Nufable also explained that Noche Buena products such as ham, queso de bola, fruit cocktails, cheese, sandwich spread, pasta, spaghetti and mayonnaise, are not considered BNPCs.

Nufable also said there is enough of supply of Buena Noche products in Bacolod City supermarkets, who are compliant with SRPs, noting also that they have already stocked up their items several months prior to the yuletide season.

She also confirmed that DTI is also monitoring the sale of Christmas lights in Negros Occidental, to ensure that it has ICC markings.*
