Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya has requested Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to prioritize affected workers in areas placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, like Bacolod City, in the distribution of assistance.
Gasataya raised the concern during a budget hearing conducted by the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives on the 2021 national budget, where he sits as vice chairman.
People in areas placed under MECQ need immediate assistance since commercial establishments allowed to operate are very limited and only under skeletal workforce, he said.
During the budget briefing, Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said that overseas Filipino workers displaced due to Covid-19 will receive the fourth tranche of cash assistance from the agency, under the DOLE-AKAP program for OFWs.
The funds will come from the Bayanihan Act 2 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday.*
