As the election period starts on January 12, the Philippine National Police is also set to activate the Police Regional Office – Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) this month, according to provincial police spokesman PCapt. Judesses Catalogo.
The PRO NIR, which will supervise the provincial police offices of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, will have its temporary headquarters at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, Catalogo said.
However, there is no word yet on who will be designated by Camp Crame as the new regional police director of NIR.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil is expected to lead the ceremonial activation of PRO NIR.
The previous PRO 18 had its temporary headquarters in the same police camp, after NIR was created in 2015, through an executive order issued by the late President Benigno Aquino III, which was abolished in 2017 by his successor, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The NIR police regional office is being eyed to be constructed in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.*
