The Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), led by PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, conducted a gift-giving activity for the victims of Typhoon Tino in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on January 15.
Ibay personally reached out to 59 families, comprising 217 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are still temporarily sheltered at the Barangay Poblacion Evacuation Center in Moises Padilla.
The evacuees received gifts including rice, snacks, slippers, and toys, bringing joy, comfort, and a much-needed sense of relief amid the emotional strain of displacement.
“More than the distribution of food packs, basic necessities, and simple gifts, the activity served as a heartfelt reminder that compassion remains at the core of public service. Children beamed with excitement, parents expressed quiet gratitude, and elderly residents felt comforted by the presence of police officers who came with open hands and genuine care, embodying the spirit of service and solidarity,” PRO-NIR stated.
Eric Golez, the uncle of Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo, had earlier donated a one-hectare lot in Barangay Inolingan for the relocation of 362 families living in no-build zones following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino on November 4, 2025.
Moises Padilla was one of the hardest-hit towns in Negros Occidental, with 362 houses washed out, 566 houses totally damaged, and another 3,856 partially damaged.
Displaced families are now awaiting the municipality’s preparations of the relocation sites so they can begin rebuilding their lives.*
