The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City has passed a resolution formally urging the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to conduct an expedited investigation into the shooting of Jonel Besaña and to intensify efforts in solving outstanding killing incidents in the city.
Besaña, who was about to fetch his wife, was shot dead last April 9 along Palanca road in Bacolod City by an unidentified suspect who fled the scene.
Authored by Councilors Atty. Caesar Distrito and Psyche Marie Sy, the measure directs BCPO Officer-in-Charge PCol. Eugene Rebadomia to address the growing public anxiety caused by a recent string of violent crimes, specifically those carried out by motorcycle-riding assailants.
The council emphasized that the brazen nature of these attacks, including the shooting of Besaña in a public area near a police station, necessitates a more aggressive and transparent approach to law enforcement.
The resolution highlights the need for the police to move beyond initial investigations by strengthening intelligence operations and conducting comprehensive reviews of all unsolved cases to identify motives and suspects.
The SP also called for increased police visibility in high-traffic public areas to deter future criminal activity and restore a sense of safety among residents.*
