The Project Free scholarship program of the provincial government of Negros Occidental will be replicated in Cadiz City, Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said yesterday.
Escalante said the scholarship for teachers and City Hall employees is part of city government’s efforts to upgrade their knowledge and skills, through a master’s degree program, that will be patterned after the Project Free program of Capitol.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cadiz City already passed on second reading a proposed ordinance on the Project Free program.
Escalante said they may accommodate about 200 teachers and government workers in Cadiz City, who will study either at the Philippine Normal University in Cadiz, or at the Northern Negros State College of Science in neighboring Sagay City.
Meanwhile, the Cadiz City government recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Education Division of Cadiz City and NONESCOST, on the School Heads Academy program.
The three-month SHA program aims to train and prepare teachers to become public school heads.
The MOA was signed at the Terrace Garden and Restaurant in Cadiz City among Schools Division superintendent Ma. Lorlinie Ortillo, NONESCOST president Renante Egcas, Rep Leo Rafael Cueva (Neg. Occ., 2nd District), and Escalante.
The MOA ensures that qualified teachers to be enrolled in NONESCOST in Sagay City under the SHA program will be entitled to scholarship grants, that include free tuition and miscellaneous fees, mobile load and transportation allowances, and other privileges.*
