A group of Negrenses are sending a petition to the Senate calling for the dropping of Senate Bill No. 1869 and to urge the exit from the World Health Organization.

The Xman group held a freedom convoy around Bacolod City on February 25, during the celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution, demanding freedom of choice with regards to health and body integrity. According to the group the bill has many red flags that pose a threat to a person’s life and liberty, as well as national sovereignty.

Andrea Si, legal spokesperson for the group, said Senate Bill 1869 has some “troublesome” provisions. One of them is the definition of quarantine which is “not original” as it is the same definition in the international health regulations.

Quarantine, as defined in the assailed senate bill, is the separation or isolation of suspect persons who are not ill, or of suspect baggage, etc., in order to prevent the spread of infection.

Senate Bill 1869 is currently awaiting second reading.

The group is also conducting a signature campaign asking Senate to put a stop to the hurried and immediate passage of HB 1869.*
