Province gets bivalent COVID-19 jabs

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Negros Occidental got vaccines against new COVID-19 strains, disclosed acting Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan yesterday.

Pinongan said the fresh supply of Pfizer and bivalent vaccines will be used as second and third booster shots, respectively, with health workers in hospitals as priority recipients, and senior citizens next in line.

She admitted that they cannot cover all medical frontliners, with the limited supply given to the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

The bivalent vaccines to be used as third booster shots were recommended by the World Health Organization, Pinongan said.

As of June 25, Negros Occidental logged 121 COVID-19 active cases, with seven being treated at the Cadiz District Hospital, a designated COVID-19 medical facility of the province, according to Pinongan.*
