Province logs 414 dengue cases in a week

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has logged 414 dengue cases in Negros Occidental, within the span of just one week.

It increased from 2,408 cases in August 17, to 2,822 cases by the 24th, according to PHO reports.

However, dengue related deaths remained at six.

Hinobaan still ranks first among 31 local government units in Negros Occidental,having the most number of dengue cases at 314.

All over Negros Occidental, the PHO recorded 2,822 cases from January to Aug. 24, compared to 956 cases during the same period in 2023, an increase of 183.62 percent.

In highly urbanized Bacolod City, the City Health Office logged a 117 percent increase in dengue cases, compared to last year, recording 794 cases, compared to 365 cases in 2023.

The number of dengue related deaths in Bacolod City remains at three.

Nine other local government units also logged cases in the three digits, including Sipalay City – 222, Bago City – 207, Talisay City – 182, Kabankalan City and Sagay City at 173 each, Silay City – 163, Cadiz City – 162 ,Carlos City – 161 and Cauayan – 141.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan noted that children aged one to 10 years old comprised the bulk of those hospitalized for dengue.*
