Pryde Henry Teves seeks to reclaim NegOr gubernatorial seat

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Pryde Henry Teves, brother of expelled Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves, is running for governor of Negros Oriental, under the Liberal Party (LP).

Accompanied by Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo and other LP party mates, Teves submitted on Friday his Certificate of Candidacy for governor of Negros Oriental, at the Provincial Comelec Office.

Teves served as Negros Oriental governor for three months, before he was unseated in 2022, after the Commission on Elections en banc ruled in favor of then Gov. Roel Degamo.

In March 4, 2023, Degamo and nine others died in a daring attack carried out by fully armed assassins inside his residential compound in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.

Teves will challenge incumbent Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria.

In an interview with reporters during his COC filing at the Comelec, Teves said he is seeking to reclaim his position and continue the initiatives he started during his previous term.

He took his oath as LP member on October 2, before Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo, who is running for congressman in the Negros Oriental 2nd district.

On the charges filed against him, Teves said he will face it all.

“I will never run away from charges,” he stressed.

In June this year, Pryde Henry Teves was released from police custody after he posted P600,000 in bail, in connection with terrorism financing cases filed against him.

The Anti-Terrorism Council designated Pryde Henry Teves, his brother, Arnolfo, and 11 others as terrorists, in July last year.

The former Rep. Teves, who is still Timor Leste, faces multiple counts of murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder, for the killing of Degamo and nine others.

The Timor-Leste Court of Appeals earlier granted the Philippines’ request for the extradition of the former Rep. Teves, accused of masterminding the killing of Degamo and others.

However, the court in September ordered for evidence to be presented again, delaying the return of ex-Rep. Teves to the Philippines.*
