The cluster head of the Philippine Sports Commission, Nonnie Lopez, visited San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo and Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona on Tuesday, and got updates on the sports program of the city government.
Lopez made San Carlos City his last stop in his trip to Region 6 where he got updates about the sports programs of local government units and determined the assistance that the PSC can provide, a press release from the city said.
He added that he wants to encourage sports activities, depending on the restriction status of an LGU amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that other LGUs were able to conduct sports activities because of low to zero cases of Covid.
He also said that he wants to present the template in upgrading the skills of coaches, by adding a new component he called “sports science” that could greatly improve or refine the sports program, the press release said.
Sports science will be broken down into other components where they will study the body language of a player, whether he or she is over or under trained, what nutrition the player needs and, in case of injury or accidents, the coach may take the initiative to help the player immediately instead of waiting for the nurses and medical aides.
Lopez said the PSC is also encouraging coaches to become certified by taking courses and enhancing their competencies.
He also checked the City Sports Park and met with eight coaches along with Jose Dennis Penalosa, coach trainer of the City Sports Office, the press release added.*
