The local stock barometer continued to decline, falling below the 6,600 level on Thursday, while the peso was almost unchanged.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) plunged 2.34 percent to 6,557.09 while All Shares also fell 2.95 percent to 3,680.62.
“Philippine shares broke past 6,600 to end at 6,557.09 as more funds continued to exit this week, while Wall Street ended flat,” Reginal Capital Development Corp. managing director Luis Limlingan said.
“Locally, the PSEi extended its losses for a seventh straight session, impacted by the pullback in US equities.”
All sectors ended the day in the negative territory with Mining and Oil recording the biggest decline of 3.69 percent.
Decliners outnumbered gainers at 181 to 35.
The peso, meanwhile, closed almost unchanged at 58.777 to the dollar from its previous finish at 58.735.
It started the day at 58.8 and traded between 58.75 and 58.85, bringing the weighted average of the day to 58.814.
Volume reached USD1.53 billion, up from the previous day’s USD1.43 billion.*PNA
