Both the local stock market and the peso ended the week’s first trading day higher after the Holy Week holiday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rose by 0.06 percent to 6,138.00, but All Shares fell by 0.32 percent to 3,645.31 level.
The Mining and Oil and Financials indices posted gains, up by 3.16 percent and 1.44 percent, respectively.
Losers were Property, down 0.91 percent; Industrial, 0.60 percent; Services, 0.58 percent; and Holding Firms, 0.08 percent.
Volume reached nearly 1.05 billion shares amounting to P4.56 billion.
Decliners led advancers at 109 to 93, while 51 shares were unchanged.
Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. chief economist Michael Ricafort said strengthening of the local currency has been supporting the stock market.
Meanwhile, the peso ended the day strong against the US dollar at 56.61, up P0.19 from its 56.80 finish on Holy Wednesday.
The local currency opened the day at 56.64, and traded between 56.48 and 56.65. The average rate for the day stood at 56.57.
Trade volume amounted to almost USD1.46 billion.*PNA
