PSO sets weekend tourney schedule

The Negros Occidental Provincial Government through the Provincial Sports Office gears up for more tournaments this week.

Set for the weekend are the Abanse Negrense Beach Volleyball Tournament (provincial championship), Governor’s Cup Beach Soccer Championship, Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament (elimination), Governor’s Cup Taekwondo Championship, Abanse Negrense Softball Tournament (semi-finals and finals), Gov. Bong Lacson MTB 5-Man Team Challenge Inter-LGU Mountain Bike Team Race, and the Abanse Negrense Table Tennis Tournament (north elimination).

The Abanse Negrense Beach Volleyball Provincial Championship is on November 25-26 at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City. Among the LGU teams that will vie for the title are Pontevedra, Himamaylan, Sipalay, Bago, Bacolod, and Candoni from the South. For the North, Cadiz, Victorias, San Carlos, Silay, Talisay, and E.B. Magalona are set to compete for the championship.

The Governor’s Cup Beach Soccer Championship (Women’s Open) is set to officially kick off in Sipalay City on November 25-27. Participating teams include San Carlos City, Sagay City, Cadiz City (PPFFAC), Cadiz City (Rushkals), One Silay, Bata Tigers, Pontevedra-A, Pontevedra-B, Himamaylan City, and Ilog. Teams from Bayawan and Guihulngan are yet to confirm participation.

The Governor’s Cup Taekwondo Championship will also commence on November 26 at the Ayala Mall Capitol Central. The age categories for Boys and Girls are Toddlers (Born 2014 or above), Grade School (Born 2011-2013), Cadet (Born 2008-2010, and Junior (Born 2005-2007).

Competitors from San Carlos City, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Manapla, Silay City, Talisay City, Bacolod City, Bago City, Murcia, Valladolid, San Enrique, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, Ilog, and Cauayan are participating in the tournament.

The Gov. Bong Lacson MTB 5-Man Team Challenge Inter-LGU Mountain Bike Team Race is also set to open on November 26 at the Capitol Lagoon, 7:30 AM. Gun start will be at The Ruins in Talisay City while the awarding ceremony will be at the Murcia Public Plaza. Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson and Provincial Sports Office Head Anthony Carlo Agustin are set to attend the event. 

The race categories are the Sports Category Male and Female, Juniors Category Male and Female, and Novice Category Male.

As for the Abanse Negrense Table Tennis Tournament, North Elimination will be held in Silay City on November 26-27, with competitions starting at 8 a.m. 

The Abanse Negrense Softball Tournament Semi-Final and Final rounds in the Age Group and Seniors’ categories will be held at Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia on November 26-27. The Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament, on the other hand, will continue the elimination rounds on November 26-27 at the STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) Gymnasium.

The sports activities are part of the Abanse Negrense Grassroots Sports Development Programs initiated by Gov. Bong Lacson to provide training and exposure that will further develop and enhance the skills and abilities of the Negrense youth. These programs hope to discover, develop, and hone potential champions and prepare them for bigger competitions in various sports events in the future.*
