PSO weekend tourneys set

Following the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament opening and the Inter-District 3X3 Finals, the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) is gearing up for more tournaments Saturday and Sunday. The list of sports events includes swimming, beach volleyball, boxing, softball, and basketball.

First on the list is the Abanse Negrense Swimming Tournament (South Elimination) in Bago City on November 19. The competition will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the participating teams are Bago City, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Pontevedra, La Carlota City, Hinigaran, Kabankalan City, and Bacolod City. Winning teams will qualify for the Provincial Championship on December 8.

Moreover, the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament playoffs will continue on November 19-20 in Talisay City Gymnasium at 8 a.m. A total of five ballgames are slated on November 19, including Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B) versus University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), Cadiz City vs. E.B. Magalona, Bacolod City vs. Bago City, Escalante City vs. Dumaguete City, and Silay City vs. STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU).

The following day sees six games on the schedule. These are UNO-R vs. Talisay City, La Consolacion College-Bacolod (LCC-B) vs. Silay City, CSA-B vs. Escalante City, Dumaguete City vs. E.B. Magalona, Bago City vs. La Carlota City, and Bacolod City vs. STI-WNU.

The Abanse Negrense Beach Volleyball Tournament will also proceed with its North Eliminations in San Carlos City on November 19-20. Participating LGU teams are San Carlos City, Talisay City, Silay City, Victorias City, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Escalante City, Toboso, Calatrava, and Bacolod City. The top teams will qualify for the Provincial Championship on November 25-26 at the Pana-ad Park and Sports Complex.

The Abanse Negrense Softball Tournament will also hold its eliminations in Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia on November 20 at 8 a.m. The semi-final and final matches will be on November 27.

Lastly, a special boxing tournament for the District VI LGUs will take place on November 20. The Abanse Negrense 6th District Boxing Festival will consist of 20 bouts at the Municipality of Hinoba-an.

According to the press release, the upcoming tournaments are part of the Abanse Negrense grassroots sports development programs initiated by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Together with the Provincial Sports Office, Lacson said he hopes to foster and develop the interests and abilities of the Negrense youth in sports.*
