Public housing contractor proposes reducing buildings at project, cites energy crisis

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Citing the ongoing energy crisis in the Philippines, the contractor of the Bacolod Asenso Yuhum Housing has requested to decrease the number of planned buildings at the Arao site in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.

The Scheirman Construction Consolidated Inc. proposed an amendment to the Joint Venture Agreement that would see only eight buildings constructed, a decline from the 25 buildings originally agreed upon.

The firm explained that the decision stems from the increasingly volatile environment for large-scale development caused by the national power situation.

Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed receipt of the request and outlined the necessary steps for its review.

The mayor said that he will ask the Contract Management Committee to submit a formal report, assessment, and evaluation regarding the proposal.

Gasataya added that he will forward the request to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for further review and assessment, noting that any amendment to the existing agreement requires approval by the city council.

He said that the contractor has already turned over two buildings and has constructed four.*
