Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco has resigned as the chief executive of the town of Pulupandan just two months after assuming office.
Suatengco, in his letter to Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson dated July 20, said he decided to vacate his position due to unforeseen health reasons, which he stressed will affect his capacity to carry out his responsibilities as the Local Chief Executive.
This, I would like to formally tender my irrevocable resignation effective today, Suatengco said. Rest assured that all my programs and projects that we have planned for the town will be continued by my successor, Vice Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña, he added.
In response to his letter, Lacson said he accepted the resignation of Suatengco effective immediately. A copy of the letter was furnished to Roselyn Quintana, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Suatengco was replaced by Vice Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña, who took his oath office as Pulupandan mayor before Gov. Lacson.
The position as vice mayor of Pulupandan was also taken over by the town’s number one councilor, Anthony Gerard Suatengco, who also took his oath office yesterday before Lacson.
Unopposed, Peña won as vice mayor of Pulupandan during the May 9 elections, after his three terms as the town’s local chief executive ended this year
Lorenzo Suatengco, on the other hand, replaced his father, former Mayor Antonio “Tony” Suatengco, who died on February 27, while running unopposed as mayor of Pulupandan.
Peña and Lorenzo Suatengco, a former Liga ng Barangay president of Pulupandan, are first cousins.*
