PWD electrocuted at Bacolod overpass

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A person with a disability (PWD), identified as ‘Tom,’ is now in stable condition after being electrocuted at an overpass in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City, on Thursday evening, February 5.

According to Bacolod City Police Station 3 Chief Andro Maapni, the victim’s latest medical bulletin confirms he is recovering despite the physical injuries sustained from the high-voltage shock.

Investigation revealed that the accident occurred when the victim climbed the overpass to seek shelter from the rain and accidentally touched a steel pipe that was in direct contact with a live wire.

Reports said the victim, who is crippled, was regularly spotted in the area asking for alms.

Authorities also dismissed initial allegations of power theft, clarifying that the victim was simply trying to stay dry when the mishap took place.*
