A 58-year-old quarry operator was injured after being shot by a motorcycle-riding gunman on August 27 along the national highway of Sitio Omanod, Barangay San Francisco, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.
The victim was identified by the police as Engr. Angelito Uy Mendoza, who was reported earlier as a contractor and resident of Brgy. Manalongon, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.
Initial investigations of the Santa Catalina police that the victim was visiting his quarry site, on board his black Honda ADV motorcycle, in Sitio Omanod, Brgy. San Francisco, Santa Catalina, when the shooting incident took place.
The victim, according to the police, suffered gunshot wounds in the back, after being shot three times by a gunman, who immediately fled on board a black XRM motorcycle.
He was initially treated of his injuries at the ACE Hospital in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, before being transferred to Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City for further treatment.
The victim is now in a stable condition, according to PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the PRO-NIR.
Police investigators recovered a fired cartridge case of caliber .45 pistol at the scene of the incident.
Malong said they are still validating initial reports that the shooting incident was triggered by a land conflict.*
