The PSKI-KFS karate club from Bacolod City brought to the global stage its brand of discipline and moves that earned three gold medals, a silver and two bronzes for its young karatekas and trainer during the Karate Idol4 International E-Tournament held the previous weekend.

With their smooth execution and impressive forms, Sensei Randy Mengullo and his young wards sealed their place among the best in the world in their respective categories.

“Sensei Elan Delfin and I dedicate this victory to all our students who were prevented to train due to health restrictions brought about by the pandemic,” Mengullo said.

“Credits also to our two dedicated junior Instructors Gerrine Kaye Perez and Ferlie Mae Lall in sharing their skills to our young karatekas,” he added.

Third grader Francis Zohann Kalaw of Bacolod Tay Tung High School bested his fellow competitors from Nepal and Macau and compatriot from Davao to win the gold in Under 9 Novice Kata.

The karateka from Nepal settled for the silver while the entry from PKL Davao shared the bronze honors with Macau.

Kalaw’s teammate Gene Agsam, a Grade 5 student of Jack & Jill School Homesite, outperformed his rivals from Sweden, Macau and Nepal to bag the gold medal in Under 12 Novice Kata to secure the second medal for PSKI-KFS.

Consistent winner Carlo Barias completed the 3-gold haul of the Bacolod-based club with another outstanding performance in U9 Advance Kata.

Barias, a Grade 5 student of A.L.. Jayme Elementary School, outscored the entry from Iran for the gold medal while sharing the spotlight for the bronze medal were the competitors RKC Dojo and AIM Dojo, both from the Philippines.

Chahatjot Singh, a Grade 4 student from Jack & Jill School City Heights, settled for the silver medal in U9 Intermediate Kata with Sweden picking up the gold and AJO Dojo (Philippines) and Macau winning the bronze.

Zohann’s sister, Miyu Kalaw, shared the bronze honors in U12 Intermediate Kata with the karateka from AJO Dojo as the entry from United Arab Emirates won the gold and Sweden, the silver medal. Miyu also placed fifth in U12 Advance Kata.

Showing the way for his young karatekas, PSKI –KFS mentor Sensei Mengullo won the bronze along with his contemporary from Iran in U55 Master’s Cup Advance Kata. Singapore topped the event and Italy placed second.*
