Rains affect 14,325 Negros families

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDPMD) yesterday reported that 14,325 families, composed of 56,988 individuals, in 108 Negros Occidental barangays, were affected by flooding caused by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Super Typhoon Egay, from July 22 to 28.

Twenty families, composed of 102 persons, are still staying at evacuation centers, as of this time, according to PDMPD reports.

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will still experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, caused by the southwest monsoon, PDMPD reports added.

The PDPMD also reported that 697 houses were either partially damaged or destroyed in Negros Occidental, of which 40 were destroyed.

State weather bureau PAGASA reported yesterday that another tropical storm is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by the weekend, which will be named Falcon.

It is predicted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which may trigger occasional or monsoon rains over the western portions of Luzon and Visayas starting July 29 or 30.*
