Ramon Torres NHS secures win in Sumobot Robotics competition

Ramon Torres National High School declared as back-to-back champion in the Sumobot category, while new participating schools made an impressive debut at the Central District Robotics Competition 2025 held in Silay City from September 17-20, a press statement from the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) said.

Saimon Lorca of Ramon Torres NHS successfully defended his title as Sumobot champion, while Ejay Zamora of Rafael B. Lacson Memorial HS scored a sweeping victory in the Zero Waste Challenge. Meanwhile, Kendra Kirsten Dayot and Marwin Diego of Negros Occidental HS emerged as the top winner in the Project Innovative Ideas category, and Krishia Pearl Mellizo of Enriqueta Montilla De Esteban MHS claimed first place in the Line Tracing category.

The districtwide event was spearheaded by the Office of Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson through the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) and Pinoy Robot Games, in partnership with the Office of Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego and the Department of Education Silay Division.

Meanwhile, Talisay City Elementary School emerged as the champion in Line Tracing Category while Concepcion ES in Talisay City secured the victory in Sumobot category and Silay South ES dominated the Mission Challenge category.

The top five winners in the said district will advance to the 5th Battle of Bots Provincial Level Competition, scheduled for September 30 to October 2. The district event marks the second leg of the competition, which will continue with the last leg in Cadiz City from September 22–25. Each winner received medals, cash prizes, and certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Winners in the High School level: Sumobot champion – Saimon Aquin Lorca (Ramon Torres NHS); 2nd place – Ramon III Brillantes (Rafael B. Lacson MNHS); 3rd place – Kyle Guarino (Rafael B. Lacson MNHS); 4th place – Ken Lawrence de la Cruz (Doña Montserrat Lopez MNHS); and 5th place – Jan Michael Roel Espolong (Pontevedra NHS).

Line Tracing champion – Krisha Pearl Mellizo (Enriquita Montilla de Esteban MHS); 2nd place – Alexies Julienne Dieron (Lopez Jaena NHS); 3rd place – Carl Lawrence Buenafe (Doña Montserrat Lopez MNHS); 4th place – Isaiah Nicolas Manuel Treyes (Rafael B. Lacson MNHS); and 5th place – Mark Cedric Castronuevo (Lopez Jaena NHS).

Mission Challenge champion – Ejay Zamora (Rafael B. Lacson MNHS); 2nd place – Chaze Jungie Calvez (Doña Montserrat Lopez MNHS); 3rd place – Jyrho Gabriel Dayot (Ramon Torres NHS-Maao); 4th place – Melissa Joan Hart Aquino (Ramon Torres NHS); and 5th place – Abbygale Zapanta (Ramon Torres NHS).

Innovative Project Ideas champion – Kendra Kirsten Dayot and Marwin Diego (Negros Occidental HS); 2nd place – Joylette Barega and Khayle Angela Maming (Doña Montserrat Lopez MNHS); 3rd place – Loren Andrea Bertuso and Gegan Ray Cahilig (Negros Occidental HS); 4th place – Janelle Faderogao Basid and Princess Ann Balongo (Ramon Torres NHS); and 5th place – Lettynia Mellize Sorongon and John Jahred Celeste (Doña Montserrat Lopez MNHS).

Winners in the Elementary level: Line Tracing champion – Avaia Ximone Openiano (Talisay Elementary School); 2nd place – Isaiah Ryker Osianas (Silay South ES); 3rd place – Sophia Beatrice Evangelista (Silay South ES); 4th place – Ramon Thirdy Catoto (Talisay ES); and 5th place – Cyrene Shane Carrera (Ma-ao Sugar Central ES).

Sumobot champion – Laira Alba (Conception ES); 2nd place – Deiniel Kyle Navisaga (Ma-ao ES); 3rd place – Khian Manjero (Governor Emilio Gaston Memorial ES); 4th place – John Iverson Fetiza (Lag-asan ES); and 5th place – Prescious Chylene Cañete (Ma-ao Sugar Central ES).

Mission Challenge champion – Rheyven Montor (Silay City South ES); 2nd place – Denz Kyle De Erit Vicario (Silay City South ES); 3rd place – Riches John Gonzaga (Ma-ao Sugar Central ES); 4th place – Kisha Ryne Teca (Governor Emilio Gaston MES); and 5th place – Anya Minghella Salvador (Bago City ES).

The event was made possible through the support of Gov. Lacson, Vice Governor Joven Alonso, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz. NOLITC recognized the partners for this event: Pinoy Robot Games led by Melvin Matulac, Local Government of Silay headed by Mayor Gallego and Local Youth Development Office led by Edmar Villanueva.*
