BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

A boy hones his basketball skills; a woman gracefully takes flight, travelling by a bouquet of balloons; a father gives his son a haircut, while leaves fall gently around them…
These are just a few of the art pieces of world-class brass sculptor Michael Cacnio being exhibited at Charlie’s Art Gallery at Italia Restaurant at Paseo Verde, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City.
Titled “Re-Creation,” the show opened on December 8 and will run until January 8, 2022.
In his solo exhibition, Cacnio celebrates the triumphs of man in the midst of trials (due to the pandemic). In the past year and a half, the home has become both shelter and refuge from the outside, and also that sense of being trapped within the four walls with nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Yet Cacnio’s RE-CREATION is the human spirit victoriously freeing himself in this scenario. During this season of hiding and taking shelter, instead of being trapped in a kwadro, man discovers himself even more: he recreates anew and finds his inner artist and paints on the final touches of a vivid portrait; a father gives his son a haircut for the first time; a young girl is caught in a graceful dance; a girl finds her love for books; a boy further hones his basketball skill; In such art that is both warmly familiar and new, Michael Cacnio brings dreams to life, dreams that were once unknown. They reveal the elation in simple yet pivotal joys and call to us to keep the wonder alive in the midst of our present realities. Such are the joys of the hidden talents we’ve discovered these past eighteen months.
