A self-confessed platoon leader of New People’s Army in southern Negros and his live-in partner, yesterday surrendered to the Bacolod City Police Office.

Known only through their aliases as Ka Vince and Ka Karrel, PCol. Joseph Thomas Martir, director of the Bacolod City Police Office, yesterday said that the rebel couple admitted to have been serving the communist terrorist group for eight years before realizing the futility of armed struggle.

The surrender of Ka Vince, 26, was facilitated by Task Force Kasanag, where his father is a member, who coordinated with PCapt. Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 7 chief, and presented the couple yesterday to Martir and the BCPO headquarters in Bacolod City.

Ka Karrel is 21 years old.

The couple is temporarily residing in Bacolod City.

Ka Vince disclosed that he had served as leader Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) platoon 2 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal- Negros South West Front, while his partner is a member of Sandatahang Pamproganda Platoon 1 of the same rebel unit.

Martir lauded the decision of the rebel couple to surrender.

Their surrender also coincided with the launching of BCPO Project Table for Peace (TAPE).*
