Rebels claim death of another civilian, policeman

Remnants of the New People’s Army in northern Negros have claimed responsibility for another summary execution of a civilian that they accused of being a military informant, and the death of a missing police trooper on December 7 in the hinterlands of Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

In a statement, the NPA Jean Pelle Command said it carried out a punitive action against a certain Mando Ugdiman, 58, in Sitio Tagda, Barangay Dolis, Calatrava, on Sunday.

Initial police investigations showed that the victim was outside of his house preparing for Sunday mass when six armed men arrived and shot him twice in the head, without any provocation.

Rebel spokesperson Cecille Estrella alleged that Ugdiman serving as an active military spy.

The rebel remnants also claimed to have recovered a caliber .45 pistol and ammunition from Ugdiman.

They also claimed responsibility for the death of Police Senior Master Sergeant Rommel Aguilar, a member of the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the recovery of his 9mm service firearm, with several ammunition.

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office strongly condemned the continued killings of innocent civilians and Aguilar, by the rebel remnants in Negros.*
