BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The New People’s Army Leonardo Panaligan Command yesterday issued a statement claiming responsibility for the death of barangay kagawad Cenon “Nonie” Cadorna, whom they accused as a military informant, in Sitio Binakayan, Brgy. Tabon, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental.

In a statement, rebel spokesman Ka JB Regalado said that the Leonardo Panaligan Command successfully implemented the death penalty issued by the revolutionary court against Cadorna, a kagawad of Brgy. Tabon, Vallehermoso, on October 17.

They claimed Cadorna served as an intelligence asset of the 62nd Infantry Battalion in his barangay, and was involved in what Regalado claimed were the “forced surrender” of innocent civilians being tagged as rebel supporters.

Prior to his death, Regalado disclosed that Cardona had been warned thrice since 2020, by the revolutionary movement, to refrain from engaging in counter revolutionary and anti social activities.

The death of Cardona will serve as a warning to those who will allow themselves to be used as military intelligence assets, the rebel spokesman said.

Regalado also clarified that not all local government units will be the targets of NPA, but only those members of LGUs, whose activities similar to what Cardona had been doing.*
