Reclamation area ordered cleared

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

In the wake of the discovery of a dead 17-year-old in the reclamation area, Mayor Greg Gasataya ordered an immediate clearing of the overgrown areas in Barangay 12, Bacolod City, where the body was found.

Gasataya stated that the city government will be writing to the management of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation to request them to clear the weeds on their private properties.

For the portions under the city government’s jurisdiction, the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office has been tasked to conduct the clearing operations.

The directive comes days after the body of Freya Mae Go was discovered in a grassy lot within the reclamation zone in Barangay 12 on October 12.

Gasataya has also addressed the murder of the minor, saying such violence has “no place in a civilized society.”

The mayor has coordinated with Bacolod City Police Office Director PCol. Joeresty Coronica to look into the progress of the ongoing criminal investigation into Go’s death.

He has offered a P100,000 reward to those who can provide information that can lead to the suspect’s arrest.*
