Record-breakers lead Negros Occidental medal haul

Track and field standouts from Negros Occidental secured a total of 10 medals, highlighted by two record-breaking performances for the Negros Island Region at the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur.

The province accumulated five gold, four silver, and one bronze medal.

The delegation’s campaign was spearheaded by two elementary division record-breakers.

Marjen Iwayan of Sagay City established a new Palaro record in the elementary girls’ javelin throw with a 47.20-meter mark to win gold, while also securing a silver in the high jump.

Joining her in the record books was Ashley Nicole Silvor of La Castellana, who clocked 1:00.09 in the 400-meter dash to claim the gold and establish a new Palaro record.

Meanwhile, Jonel Metoda Jr. of Sagay City won gold at the elementary boys’ javelin throw, while Christine Rose Toquero of Escalante City took the top spot in the secondary girls’ javelin throw.

Kristine Joy Bilbao of E.B. Magalona emerged as a multi-medalist, winning gold in the shot put throw and claiming silver in the discus throw.

The remaining podium finishes came from Bernandito Villegas Jr. of Hinigaran, who secured a silver medal in the elementary boys’ discus throw, and Ian Chester Dimanalata of Silay City, who contributed a bronze medal in the secondary boys’ discus throw.*
