The Philippine Red Cross – Bacolod Chapter trained 66 barangay personnel and tanods in Murcia, Negros Occidental on basic life support and first aid, in the second phase of the program.
According to Murcia Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) head Vicente Leonida, the trained responders from 23 Barangays received a one year insurance for accidents and hospitalization, renewable every year.
“The aim of this training is for every barangay to have a pool of responders to address local emergencies while professional help is on the way,” Leonida said.
The program is designed to equip local community responders with the skills needed to provide immediate medical assistance, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The first batch of the training, consisting of 34 participants, took place on August 13-15, while the second batch is currently ongoing at Balay Jardin, Barangay Pandanon, Murcia, with 32 participants.
The MDRRMO said that the participants are expected to re-echo the training in their respective barangays.*
