In line with the efforts of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental to continuously promote its Abanse Negrense Sports Programs, the Provincial Sports Office, headed by Anthony Carlo Agustin, recently organized a training course for local basketball referees in the province.
The refresher training for basketball referees was conducted at Brgy. Looc Covered Court in the Municipality of Calatrava and will run from May 29 to 31. The program was made possible through a partnership with the local government unit and the municipal sports office of Calatrava.
With the theme, “Enhancing Skills for Quality Officiating,” the training course aims to promote the “culture of learning” to increase development and professionalism among the basketball referees in the province.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson hopes the program will strengthen the quality of officiating, as well as improve the productivity and performance of local referees by identifying training gaps and needs.
By making training programs more accessible and available particularly in the LGUs, the provincial government strives to provide the local referees with opportunities to learn and review updated protocols and practice new concepts, which are significant factors in ensuring the integrity of the games and tournaments conducted in the province. The Refresher Training for Basketball Referees in Calatrava was spearheaded by former PBA referee Engr. Throngy Aldaba.
The basketball refresher course for referees is part of the Abanse Negrense Sports Programs, led by Gov. Lacson.*
