Almost two weeks after the assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, P/Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis was relieved yesterday as Central Visayas regional police director.

Bearis, who assumed as regional police director of Central Visayas December last year, has been transferred to the Aviation Security Group, as its new chief.

He will be exchanging posts with Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, who was the Aviation Security Group head, effective March 17, based on the order issued by PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office is under the supervision of the Police Regional Office 7.

Degamo was buried on March 16, as the manhunt is ongoing on the four suspects, including the leader of assassins, who remain at large. The authorities believe they are still hiding in Negros Island.

Last week, the entire police forces of Bayawan City and Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental were also relieved, following the March 4 bloodbath that killed Gov. Degamo and eight others.

They were replaced by police officers from Cebu and Bohol.

Nine other police generals also got new assignments.*
