The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines reported the completion on repairs on the damaged Amlan-Samboan submarine cable in Amlan, Negros Oriental, increasing the reliability of its power transmission services between the islands of Negros and Cebu.
The transmission line was damaged during the dredging and re-channeling activities of the Department of Public Works and Highways in June 15 last year.
The damage resulted in the halving capacity of NGCP underwater cable to transmit power between Negros and Cebu, from 180 MW to only 90 MW, limiting the flow of power between islands.
In a statement, NGCP said the Amlan-Samboan 138kV Transmission is vital to the exchange of power within the Visayas grid, giving Negros and Panay consumers access to power from Luzon and other islands within the region.
NGCP further said that its energization will ensure the full dispatch of Visayas grid-connected power plants, including renewable energy sources in Negros.*
