Negros Occidental retired judge Sixto Guanzon passed away at The Doctors’ Hospital in Bacolod City yesterday at the age of 95.
He succumbed to gastrointestinal bleeding, his daughter, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon of the Commission on Elections said.
The judge was the husband of the late Negros Occidental Board Member Elvira Guanzon who passed away at 95 on July 11.
He was the recipient of a US Congressional Gold Medal for heroism during World War II.
He graduated summa cum laude from Silliman University in Dumaguete City in 1948 and cum laude from the Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law in 1952.
His body will lie in state at the Acropolis Gardens in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, until today and will be cremated tomorrow.
His remains will be brought to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Kabankalan City Sunday morning and will be buried at the Kabankalan Public Cemetery at 3 p.m., Commissioner Guanzon said.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Mateo Guanzon III, Negros Occidental Board Member Sixto Guanzon Jr., Dr. Casten Guanzon, Dr. Jeffry Guanzon and Pengar Guanzon, and daughters Judge Frances Guanzon, Dr. Ma.Luz Vicenta Guanzon and the Comelec Commissioner.*
