A P20,000 reward is being offered by the Cadiz City government to anyone who may offer credible information which will lead to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of giant clam poachers.
The city government has strongly condemned illegal poaching activities and the killing of 33 giant clams at the Giant Clam Village within the vicinity of Lakawon Island Resort in Cadiz, a declared protected marine conservation area.
Giant clams are protected species, and any act of collecting, killing, damaging, or possessing giant clams is a criminal offense punishable under the law.
All reports against the identified poachers will be treated with strict confidentiality, an advisory issued by the Cadiz City government said.
The city government, according to the advisory, will pursue the full force of the law against the violators. No tolerance will be given to crimes against our marine environment, it further stressed.
Increased monitoring and law enforcement coordination are now in place to protect our marine environment, the advisory further said.
