Rider assaults senior citizen, faces LTO sanctions

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

The Land Transportation Office – Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is set to issue a show cause order against a motorcycle rider involved in a physical altercation with a senior citizen along the National Highway in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

The issue stemmed from a confrontation involving a 30-year-old Patric Demapanag, resident of Silay City, who was operating a Honda Beat motorcycle, and 67-year-old Luisito Tubongbanua, president of the Association of Barangay Captains and former Sangguniang Bayan member of Murcia, who was driving a Toyota Wigo.

According to initial reports from Murcia Municipal Police Station, both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the motorcycle rider reportedly overtook and blocked the path of the Toyota Wigo.

The situation escalated when the rider allegedly assaulted the elderly driver, delivering multiple punches that resulted in facial injuries to the victim.

The motorcycle rider was subsequently taken into police custody and is facing charges of serious physical Injuries.

The LTO-NIR will require the rider to submit a formal explanation as to why his driver’s license should not be suspended, revoked, or subjected to other administrative sanctions.*
