A 31-year-old rice seller was shot dead by attackers that were riding-in-tandem on Thursday afternoon along the national highway in Sitio Buri, Barangay 4, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The victim was identified as alias ‘Robert,’ a resident of Gregoria Ville, Barangay 3, in the city.
Initial investigation conducted by the Kabankalan Component City Police Station revealed that the victim was driving his Bajaj tricycle when another motorcycle driven by two unidentified persons aligned alongside him. Suddenly, without any provocation, the back rider shot him using a firearm of unknown caliber.
As a result, the victim was hit in the head, sustaining severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
After the incident, police said that the suspects immediately left the scene heading toward Highway Mabinay, Barangay 1.
Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigations to determine the motive behind the crime and to identify and arrest the assailants.*
