Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will lead city officials and Department of Education executives in the commemoration of the 125th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal today.
The three-part program is anchored on the theme, “Jose Rizal: Inspirasyon sa Pagbangon at Paghilom ng Bayan.”
The activity will start with a thanksgiving mass at 6:30 a.m. to be followed by a floral offering as well as the hoisting of 10 Philippine flags by the honor guards of the Knights of Columbus.
Bacolod Schools Division Superintendent Gladys Amylaine Sales will give the welcome remarks with Leonardia as the keynote speaker.
Education program supervisors and public school officials, Parents-Teachers Association members and city government department heads, among others, are also expected to attend the commemoration.
Leonardia unveiled the architectural perspective of the Rizal Park in June 2020 when the city celebrated the 159th birthday of the national hero.
The P9.45 million rehabilitation project of the park along Araneta Street came from the Local Government Support Fund-Assistance to Cities (LGSF-AC) of the Department of Budget and Management.
The mayor expressed hopes that the improvement of the park fronting Rizal Elementary School grounds will help “immortalize” Rizal. The park, now well-lit at sundown, is now among the city’s growing number of attractions for both locals and visiting tourists.*
