Rojas to PrimeWater: Expedite pipeline transfer

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Councilor Roberto Rojas, chairperson of Committee on Energy and Public Utilities, said that the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) – PrimeWater promised to transfer the pipeline located at Bakyas Bridge, Barangay Mansilingan, by late this week or early next week.

Rojas said that he will monitor PrimeWater to ensure that they will take action and added that even the Department of Public Works and Highways has contacted PrimeWater to fast track the handling of the pipeline.

In an interview, Rojas said that the pipeline is dangerous to the public and he wants it transferred as soon as possible in order to improve the water service in Mansilingan and remove the eyesore.

“It’s about time and also a wakeup call to them that they need to do it ASAP,” Rojas said.

According to Rojas, another contractor will handle the transferring of the pipeline.

Meanwhile, Mayor Greg Gasataya said that he talked with BACIWA General Manager Mona Dia Jardin, who coordinated with PrimeWater to start the transferring of the pipeline at the side of the bridge.

“It causes a lot of risk and contributes to the traffic congestion,” Gasataya said.

Last Wednesday, Rojas submitted a resolution urging the BACIWA-PrimeWater to prioritize and swiftly address the sufficiency and sustainability of clean water supply in the city.

On the other hand, the BACIWA Employees’ Union pushed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to investigate the Joint Venture Agreement between the two water providers.*
