Residents of Brgy. Camugao in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental await the distribution of relief goods from Rotary District 3850 Disaster Response Team*

As part of their continuing effort to assist Typhoon Odette victims in southern Negros Occidental, the Rotary District 3850 Disaster Response Team delivered various items in the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay on January 9.

First stop was in Brgy. Camugao, Kabankalan where Rotarians gave out a truckload of mattresses, pillows, blankets, medicines, bread, water, laundry soap, slippers, disinfectant liquids and clothing to affected victims that were earlier identified by the Rotary Club of Kabankalan, a press release from the Rotary District 3850 said.

The Rotarians then proceeded to Brgy. Cabadiangan in Sipalay City and endorsed to Sipalay Mayor Gina Lizares a truckload of relief goods that also included water, medicines, clothing, mattresses, pillows, blankets, bread, sugar and construction repair kits at the Cabadiangan Covered Court.

District 3850 Governor Edwin To has directed Rotarians in Negros Occidental to prioritize Brgy. Cabadiangan, one of the hardest-hit villages in Sipalay and where most lives were lost during the holidays when the storm ravaged the area.

Mayor Lizares thanked the Rotarians for their continuing help and welcomed the news that District 3850 has received a $25,000 grant from Rotary International to help repair and rebuild homes in their locality.

The activity dubbed as “Fill your Bag with Rotary Love” gave over 300 residents in the village a chance to fill-up their big bags with needed clothing, slippers and toys for the children. Each recipient was also provided with disinfectant liquid and laundry detergent so they can wash the clothes before using them.

Fifty residents became lucky winners of construction repair kits sent by Governor To which included hammers, saw, nails and other tools that were raffled off after the relief efforts. 70 residents on the other hand received mattresses, blankets, pillows and ‘banig’ which were donated by the Rotary Club of Midtown Iloilo through Past President Noe Gumayao.

The Council of Presidents led by President Kendall Ang of the Rotary Club of Bacolod North also delivered 20 sacks of rice and five boxes of clothing to the San Jose Parish Church in Sipalay. The Rotaractors of the Rotary Club of Marapara had a feeding program and distributed slippers, medicines, goodies, hygiene kits, school supplies to 145 students of Genaro Alvarez Elementary School and also turned over bond papers and other supplies to the teachers.

Participating clubs that joined the activity were the Rotary Clubs of Escalante, Bacolod Central, Bacolod (Mother Club), Bacolod South, Bacolod North, Kabankalan and Binalbagan-East.*
