Sagay visual artist Leo Carton opened his third solo art exhibition at McDonald’s McCafe at The Upper East, Bacolod City on Wednesday, which will run until May 9.
Carton was the only Filipino artist among the top 60 finalists at the Busan International Environment Award Festival 2023 and received a Bronze Award during the same art event.
His exhibit titled “The Flaws of Us”, showcases 47 of his paintings which “explores the inherent imperfections that define our humanity expressed through different kinds of medium, layered brush strokes, textured faces, and distorted forms.”
Carton said he aims to capture the beauty and vulnerability of these imperfections, as well as celebrate the unique tapestry of our shared experiences.
The “Flaws of Us” is a deep personal exploration of my own vulnerabilities and the universal struggle of self-acceptance. We all carry scars, both visible and hidden. I use vibrant colors, raw textures, and expressive lines to reflect that messy, beautiful reality, he said in a statement.

This also deals with the complex dynamics of family and sibling relationships, focusing on the imperfections that both bind and challenge us, Carton said.
The artworks are also reflections of a messy yet beautiful familial love. It celebrates the strength found in embracing our flaws both individually and collectively within the context of the family, and I hope viewers will find solace and connection in these pieces, he added.
Carton held his first one-man show at the Museo sang Bata sa Negros at the Sagay City Old Muncipal Building on March 14, 2005, and his second solo exhibition at the Dagway Sagay Artist Village on March 14, 2008.*
