Representatives of the different civil society organizations (CSOs) in San Carlos City elected members of the Local Special Bodies (LSBs) at the SP Session Hall on September 2.
Elected as part of the monitoring team were Trifine Lacson of the Mahigugmaon Women’s Association; Merelie Destacamento of Tapon Fisherfolks and Workers Association; Jose Beleganio of San Carlos Negros Fortuna Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association; Vergelio Carballo of San Juan Farmers Association; and Lourdes Colorines of San Agustin Legacy Rural Workers.
Lacson was also elected for non-agri composed the Local Department Council together with Vidal Bordaje for senior citizen; Virgienely Solano for youth (Bagonbon Youth Farmers Association); Aida Gando for fisherfolks (Buluangan fisherfolks vendors association); Erna Banhao for farmers (Kapatiran women farmers association) and Habitat organization.
Lawyer Pierra Lamayo, LGOO VI of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-San Carlos, said that the purpose of the selection is to strengthen the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the local government code where citizen participation is necessary .
She further said that the outcomes of the participatory governance include more responsive basic services to people’s needs, effective service delivery and efficient use of resources.
Engr. Magnolia Antonio, City Planning and Development Coordinator, oriented the participants regarding the roles of the newly-elected special body members.
Also present during the event were SP Member Mark Cui on behalf of Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona and Mariel Avenir, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager.
Currently, there are already a total of 57 accredited CSOs in the city.*
