Modified mufflers set to be destroyed by a road roller in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental* City PIO photo

More than 1,000 illegal mufflers were destroyed yesterday by the police, following a flag raising ceremony in front of the San Carlos City Hall, in Negros Occidental.

The destruction of mufflers was also witnessed by Mayor Renato Gustilo and PLt. Col. Jesus Mesahon, with City Hall employees and members of the San Carlos City Police Station.

A road roller was used to compress and destroy the illegal mufflers, which had been confiscated starting January this year, Mesahon said.

Gustilo said the government is just doing its duty to run after illegal activities, including those who use noisy motorcycles with modified mufflers.

He also reminded government workers, especially parents, not to tolerate their children who use these vehicles, especially for night time motorcycle racing.

“Parents who tolerate their children for doing such are like pushing them into accidents,” he said.

Mesahon said that they will continue to apprehend those using illegal mufflers and seize them in compliance with RA 4136 and San Carlos City Ordinance No. 16-11 declaring as “public nuisance motor vehicles that emit exceptionally loud, startling, and annoying noise which tend to affect public health, safety and peace.”*
