San Carlos City Hospital kicked off its National Hospital Week celebration Monday themed “Pagbangon mula sa pandemya, Kayang kaya basta’t sama same.”

The activity started with a motorcade around the major streets of the city where different divisions and sections of the hospital department participated.

The week-long celebration is lined up with various activities such as the zumba fitness, Bilateral Tubal Ligation Day, bloodletting activity, and different sporting activities such as basketball and volleyball.

City Administrator Atty. Estefanio Libutan Jr., who spoke in behalf of City Mayor Renato Gustilo, thanked the employees of San Carlos City Hospital especially the frontliners and those who care for COVID-19 patients.

He also told them to serve their patients with compassion and sensitivity since aside from medical care, the sick also need kindness. He also told them to remember always the greatest figure in nursing history, Florence Nightingale whose teachings include treating every person or patient holistically since every person has a spiritual, mental, and physical side that must be nurtured for complete healing to occur.

On the other hand, Dr. Mary Genevieve Montaño, acting Chief of the City Hospital said that there are now only a few cases of COVID-19 in the city which means that it is already manageable but since it is still around precautionary measures are still important to avoid infection.

Ma. Consuelo Janice Carmona, administrative officer, also imparted her thoughts saying that the Hospital Week is an annual celebration pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 181, aimed at promoting awareness of the health program and social roles of the hospital as well as the importance of hospital partnerships with other sectors and the community in ensuring and maintaining the health of the citizens.

Also present at the event were Councilor Dr. Jose Carlos Villarante, Chairman of the Committee on Health, Sanitation and Social Services; Dr. Renan Sanchez, Chief of Clinics; and Charlene Pol Anlap, one of the Board of Trustees.*
