The city government of San Carlos, through the City Environment Management Office (CEMO) joined in celebrating World Wetlands Day on February 2.
Anchored on the theme, “It’s time for Wetlands Restoration”, which highlights the urgent need to prioritize wetland restoration, representatives of CEMO held a clean-up drive at Kapriking, Villarante Village in Brgy. 1, San Carlos City.
Jomelita Santillan, CEMO admin aide and in charge of the activity, said a total of eight sacks of non-biodegradable wastes like plastic bags and bottles, diapers, and other non-recyclable materials were collected.
She added that there is a need to conduct another clean-up activity in Kapriking, because of the number of waste which need to be collected, including those along the path leading there.
She also said they will tap individuals or organizations to join them in that activity to clean a wider area.
World Wetlands Day is a global awareness campaign celebrated every 2nd of February, to highlight the value of wetlands.
The day also marks the anniversary of the Convention on Wetlands, an intergovernmental treaty adopted in 1971.*
