The local government unit of San Carlos City in Negros Occidental and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-San Carlos City spearheaded the voluntary blood donation drive at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Park Marina, in the city on January 24.

Johannes Pranz Curativo, PRC branch coordinator/humanitarian staff, said that a total of 48 individuals where screened but only 43 passed and successfully donated blood.

He added the bloodletting activity will be done every month to have a sufficient supply of blood in the city and help those in the need for blood under the Blood Samaritan Program of City Mayor Renato Gustilo, catering the local indigents.

Blood donors receive a card from the Philippine Red Cross which they can use during emergency.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office facilitated the blood donation drive in coordination with the PRC Negros Occidental-Bacolod Chapter.*
