San Carlos triathlon attracts nationwide interest

At least 130 triathletes from Luzon to Mindanao flocked to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on November 20 to compete in the Pintaflores Triathlon consisting of a one-kilometer swim, 30-kilometer bike and eight-kilometer run.

The race was among the events organized in line with the celebration of the 30th Pintaflores Festival facilitated by the San Carlos Association of Mountain Bikers (SCAMB), in cooperation with the local government of San Carlos City.

Winners in the Male Elite category were Kristianne Lim, first place; Jann Patrick Catan, second; and Michael Acas, third; while in the 19 and below category, Edgie Araces was declared the winner, followed by Jefran Ditchella and Raphael Nocete in the second and third places respectively.

For the Male 20 to 29, the winners were John Clement Vergara, first; Jude Dejilla, second; and Joel Ditchella, third; while in the Male 30 to 39, Johnson Ejase won first place; Kim Estanil, second; and Adrian Mallari, third.

Ralph Arche was the first-place winner in the Male 40 to 49 category, followed by Dino Paolo Pison and then Rey Duque; while in the Male 50 to above, Michael Magalso won first place; Rogelio Dejilla Jr., second; and Pedro Cabingas, third;

In the Male MTB Open, Neil Plagata was the first-place finisher; Charlie Jenon, second; and Ronnie Galve Jr., third; while in the Relay Open Team, the winners were Cool Cycles, first place; DPS Racing, second; and Holy Tri Team, third.

Meanwhile, in the Female Elite, Karen Manayon placed first; followed by Jamie Lacaya and Andrea Xayde Gaurana in the second and third places, respectively.

In the Female 19 and below, Mearianne Pearlleen Suico finished place; Jean Marie Osorio, second; and Wayne Michelle Cabaron, third; while in the Female 20 to 29, winners were Meara Pearnille Suico, first; Dorothy Gail Roa, second; and Soidemer Claracay, third.

First-place finishers in the Female 30 to 39 was Urie Hondrade; Cheryl Mae Tagra in the Female 40 and above; and Nathalie Nesnia in the Female MTB Open.

Road Bike Elite Men’s and Women’s categories winners received P10,000 for first place; P7,000, second; and P5,000, third; while relay winners were given P8,000; P6,000; and P4,000 for first, second and third places, respectively. All winners received trophies.

Jose Angelo Cosas, SCAMB president, said he was grateful for the success of the first-ever traditional triathlon, where all participants finished the race.

He added that he looked forward to organizing the Olympic triathlon distances consisting of a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 10-kilometer run next year.*
